Wanderers win again

Burton suffered their first home league defeat of the season as Wycombe extended their fine run of form with a 2-1 win. But Gary Waddock's men were made to work hard for their fourth successive victory after taking a 2-0 half-time lead. Ben Strevens headed an early chance too high, but Wycombe's first-half domination was rewarded by superb goals from skipper Gareth Ainsworth and top-scorer Andy Sandell. Ainsworth gave the Chairboys the lead with a magnificent 30-yard shot in the 16th minute and Sandell followed suit with a 25-yard free-kick four minutes before the break. The home side reduced the deficit through Shaun Harrad's 15-yard shot in the 50th minute, and with Wycombe rocking only the woodwork denied Aaron Webster an equaliser four minutes later. Wycombe could have restored their two-goal advantage in the 72nd minute but Kevin Betsy's shot came back off a post.
