Waddock lauds defence

Manager Gary Waddock paid tribute to his defence after Wycombe secured a 2-0 victory at struggling Gillingham. Skipper Gareth Ainsworth fired the Chairboys into a 23rd-minute lead, before Kevin Betsy secured the points just after half-time. "I thought the defence were outstanding throughout the game," he said. "Credit to Gillingham, they threw everything at us with corners, long throws and balls into the box. "The players were getting to their head to it and throwing their bodies in the way. It is a very pleasing result - it was a good all round team performance. "I spoke to Bevs (Stuart Beavon) in there and he wants to score goals and he is a good finisher but I said don't worry about it (not scoring) I will take that performance every day. "We don't care where the points are coming from. To come to a club like this and get a win like we did today and the three points is fantastic for everybody. At the moment, we are picking up results on the road while everybody is concerned with our home return in terms of points but as long as we get the total right it does matter where they come from."
