Tranmere 2-0 Wycombe: Report

17 September 2011 20:02

Rovers tame toothless Wanderers

Goals in each half from Enoch Showunmi and Ash Taylor gave Tranmere a 2-0 victory over Wycombe in a dogged affair at Prenton Park.

Rovers, beaten by Carlisle in midweek, were ahead after nine minutes when Showunmi applied the close-range finish to Lucas Akins` header across goal.

Wycombe were almost level after 16 minutes but Elliot Benyon shot just wide from a Ben Strevens pass.

Tranmere gave a start to loan signing Ryan Donaldson but the Newcastle player was forced off with a hamstring problem after only 26 minutes with Josh Labadie joining the action as his replacement.

Les Parry`s side went 2-0 ahead on the hour mark as Taylor headed in from a John Welsh corner.

Stuart Lewis found the top of the netting with a good effort midway through the second half but Wanderers could not find a breakthrough as they slipped to a fifth successive defeat in League One.
