Spot-on Basey denies Boro

Grant Basey fired home a last-gasp penalty to rescue relegation-threatened Wycombe a vital 1-1 draw at Stevenage and dent Boro's charge towards the play-offs.

Michael Bostwick's brilliant 85th-minute strike looked to have secured the win for the hosts, only for referee James Linington to point to the spot after Craig Eastmond was tripped by Mark Roberts.

Basey stepped up to calmly slot the ball home in stoppage time and extend Wycombe's unbeaten run to six games.

Midway through the first half, Stevenage's Lawrie Wilson was guilty of a glaring miss, skewing horribly wide after Darius Charles had slid the ball into his path.

Wycombe responded through Chris Hackett, who forced Chris Day into a decent stop at his near post but Ben Strevens could only fire the rebound into the side netting.

Within minutes of the restart, Nikki Bull did well to palm Luke Freeman's long-range strike over the crossbar before Bostwick gave the home side a barely-deserved lead.

But it was the visitors who would have the final say, as Basey held his nerve to beat Day.
