Exeter 1-3 Wycombe: Report

Wanderers sink City

Wycombe picked up three huge points in the battle to avoid relegation from League One with a comfortable 3-1 win at Exeter.

With both teams starting the day in the relegation zone, it was understandable that the first half was tentative at best with chances at a premium.

But Wycombe started the second half well and hit Exeter with two goals in a four-minute spell.

Paul Hayes grabbed the first when he slotted in a rebound and Stuart Beavon added the second when he went through on goal. Lenny Pidgeley saved his first effort, but he reacted well to convert at the second attempt.

Exeter hit straight back with James Dunne thumping in a free-kick, but Wycombe regained their two-goal advantage when Hayes headed his second with a looping effort across goal and in at the far post.

Dunne went close with a repeat of his earlier effort for Exeter, but the men from Devon slipped another step closer to relegation.
