Wrexham manager Dean Saunders saw his side return to winning ways against fellow strugglers Grays Athletic at the Racecourse.Striker Christian Smith put Wrexham ahead on five minutes firing into the bottom corner before Grays soon levelled through Jamie Slabber.
Gareth Taylor's header seven minutes before the break was enough to give the hosts their fifth league win.
Grays, however, have now won only two of their 16 league games to date.
Wrexham boss Dean Saunders: "I thought we played really well first-half. Going forward we looked like we were attacking and Christian Smith could have had a hat-trick in the first 10 minutes.
"Gareth [Taylor] had a couple of chances and we missed so many chances today again, I lost count in the end.
"But in the second-half we came out and the tension's in the ground and thinking 'here we go, 2-1 up and they've always got a chance'.
"Smith and Andy Fleming won us the game, I think, in midfield. The two of them made sure they won most of the balls dropped in there and we kept coming out with the ball.
"I just thought the goal we gave away was a fluke."
Grays Athletic manager Julian Dicks told BBC Essex:
"In the first-half we didn't come out of the blocks at all and when you go in losing it's very difficult to get it back.
"Our first-half for me was one of the worst first-halves I've ever seen in football at any level - it was that bad.
"But in the second half they came out and in fairness to them we were the better side."
