Season over for McEvilly

Season over for McEvilly

Wrexham striker Lee McEvilly's season is over after he suffered a recurrence of a foot injury.

The Northern Ireland international broke a bone in his foot in December and only returned to action in the 2-1 defeat against Shrewsbury on April 9.

However, his comeback lasted just four games and he now expects to have to undergo surgery on the problem in the summer.

An unhappy McEvilly told the Daily Post: "I just can't believe it and I don't really know what to say except that it looks as though the season is over for me and that's that.

"I'd like to apologise to all the club's supporters because they really got behind me when I started playing again at the beginning of this month and now I feel as though I've let them down.

"You can imagine how I felt when I was told the same bone had been broken again. It seems as though the club is jinxed because I've never had injury problems before coming here.

"Since the summer, though, I've had two operations and I'll probably need another one again on my foot.

"I've been unlucky this year, but I'm determined to come back stronger and fitter next season and I just hope that the gaffer will offer me a new contract so that I'll still be with Wrexham."
