Wrexham manager Brian Carey revealed an angry half-time blast at his players was behind their 3-1 victory over Boston United which kept the Red Dragons in the Football League and condemned the opposition to relegation to the Conference.
Second-half strikes from Ryan Valentine, Chris Llewellyn and Michael Proctor ensured the Welsh club survived on the last day of the season, but Carey admitted he feared for their future after a poor opening 45 minutes.
"It looked like Boston were staying in the league and we were dropping into the Conference, which would have been a huge crime," he told the club's official website.
"Credit to the players out there, they stuck at it and got the right result.
"I told them at half-time that the first half was just shocking and that they had to wake up for the occasion.
"They responded the right way in the second half and we were worthy winners in the end.
"At half-time I was aware of the Macclesfield result and at that point we were heading down into the Conference."
