| Star Man- To choose one star man for Portugal would be impossible as this generation of players is named the ‘Golden Generation’. The likes of Luis Figo of Inter Milan, Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United, Deco of FC Barcelona and Maniche of Dynamo Moscow make up the main star men but there are many more to choose from. You can see from this Portugal are real contenders for the 2006 World Cup in Germany having such an impressive squad. | |
How did they qualify - Portugal stormed their qualifying group finishing first on 30 points not losing a game. They finished 7 points clear of second place Slovakia. Portugal’s most impressive performance was against Russia defeating them 7-1 and Russia are no push over, they themselves finished third only on goal difference. To cap it all off Portugal scored 35 goals and only conceded 5 in the 12 games they played. I think we can safely say Portugal will be looking forward to their World Cup Germany 2006 campaign and full of confidence after cruising through the qualifying round.
