How did they qualify - As part of group 5, Korea had to face Yemen, Thailand and United Arab Emirates. Winning 3 of their 6 games, Korea finished top of their group and gained qualification to the finals. The deciding game for Korea was played against Kuwait which ended up in a 4-0 victory for the team and placed them in the FIFA world cup 2006 finals.

The team first entered the world cup back in 1954 and managed to qualify but were knocked out in round one. Since then the team had never made it past round one until 2002 when they finished a respectable 4th place.
