How did they qualify - Italy came out top of their group in this years world cup qualifiers, with a 5 point lead over Norway it was a clear victory which has led the team in to the FIFA World cup 2006, Germany.

Their match against Norway started off very shaky and no sooner had the game started Italy were a goal down, the team managed to step up their game and Rossi was soon to find himself a goal followed by a goal from Luca Toni in the remaining few minutes. This victory over Norway was to secure Italy's place in the finals.

In the running for group 5 were Italy, Norway, Scotland, Slovenia, Belarus and Moldova. Norway also looked set to join Italy in the finals but narrowly missed out when beaten by the Czech republic in the play-offs.

The Italian national football team were formed in 1910 and played their first match against France, held in Milan the team played an outstanding performance and a victory of 6-2 was to be celebrated. Since the team were formed they managed to win the World cup 3 times and have only ever not qualified once back in 1958.

Italy certainly seem to be on top form and look to be tough contenders for this world cup. Luca Toni seems to be a player to watch out for playing a very hard game and having a great eye for a goal which was proved in the teams qualying match against Belarus, winning 4-1 Luca scoring 3 of those 4 goals.

32 teams are set to face each other head to head to fight for that all important first place finish, above is shown a picture of the Italy national team photo and their team badge.
