How did they qualify - France had a tough time in group 4 but managed to come out top of their group with 20 points, thats two clear points over Switzerland and Israel. Israel, Switzerland and France had no defeats through the group matches. A total of 10 games were played for France and out of that 5 were wins and 5 were draw games.

The French national football first entered for the world cup back in 1930, after making it through the qualifying rounds the team were knocked out in round 1. The team have never been very consistant and many years have not qualified for the finals of the world cup. However 1982 saw the team take a respectable 4th place finish and then in 1986 a 3rd place finish, it wasn't until 1998 that the team went for gold and went home with the title. 2002 saw the team knocked out in the first round again but they are back again for the FIFA world cup 2006 with hope that they can repeat the performances of 1998.
