How did they qualify - The Czech Republic narrowly missed out on instant entry to the world cup by a few points, beaten to the top spot by the Netherlands. The team then had to face Norway in the play-offs to decide who takes a place in the finals. After a nail biting game Czech managed to win their play-off 1-0 and gained entry into the finals.
As the Czech republic they first entered the world cup in 1998 but failed to qualify for the finals, this will be their first time in the finals of the world cup.
Before the split of Czechoslovakia, the national team had finished the world cup as runners up in the years of 1934 and 1962 and were the winners of the European championship in 1976. After the split Czech republics first match was played against Turkey in 1994.
