Wolves send Kightly for knee surgery

    27 Oct 2010 - 07:08:35

Troubled Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Michael Kightly will undergo the surgeon's knife as he looks to make a return to action.

The highly-rated 24-year-old has been in the Molineux treatment room for almost 12 months after sustaining knee problems and he has travelled to Sweden for surgery to cure the problem.

Kightly, who joined Wolves from non-league Grays for a nominal fee on New Year's Day 2007, set the Championship alight with a number of stirring performances as the Midlanders clinched the title at the end of the 2008-09 season.

But an injury-plagued period has followed, but he is hopeful the procedure will prove effective in Scandinavia so he can finally get to grips with life in the Premier League.

"It's been almost a year now since I played, and so we've decided to try something different to try and speed up my recovery," Kightly told the club's official website.

"On a couple of occasions I've actually stepped up my rehab and got close to getting back only to not quite make it.

"So I'm going to have the operation in Sweden to try and push my recovery on.

"There is still no timescale on my recovery but I'm feeling positive and hoping that this will help me complete my recovery."
