Wolves have agreed a deal to sign Scunthorpe United striker Andy Keogh for an initial fee of £600,000.
The 20-year-old could eventually cost the Molineux club £850,000, with Scunthorpe also having secured a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the club's official website: "Andy is a player we have been trying to sign for the manager for some time.
"This is an exciting signing for us as, at 20 years of age, he is a player with bags of potential."
Iron chairman Steve Wharton was less pleased with the transfer, telling Scunthorpe's official website: "A number of clubs registered their interest in Andy and we made it clear to all of them that he would remain at Scunthorpe until the end of his contract.
"It was therefore a complete surprise to us that he had his mind set on joining Wolverhampton Wanderers before they even had permission to speak to him."
Keogh, a former Leeds United trainee, had netted seven goals for the Iron this term, forming a deadly partnership with Billy Sharp.
