Wolves launch Breen appeal
02 Oct 2006 - 12:15:09
Wolves' club secretary Richard Skirrow has confirmed the club have lodged an appeal with the Football Association to try and get Gary Breen's red card at Cardiff City overturned.
The Republic of Ireland international defender was dismissed by referee Pat Miller after just 23 minutes of Wolves' 4-0 defeat at Ninian Park on Saturday for a perceived use of an elbow on Bluebirds ace Steve Thompson.
However, the club have since studied replays of the incident and claim it was purely accidental.
Skirrow told Wolves' official website: "Gary Breen was adamant from the time of his dismissal no intent was involved.
"He was demonstrating to the assistant referee that he himself had been caught in a challenge with Steve Thompson, who also tried to appeal on Gary's behalf.
"On viewing video evidence on Monday the club felt an appeal was justified."
