    Wolves calm over Doyle injury

    09 Aug 2010 - 11:07:31

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Mick McCarthy is confident that the calf injury which kept striker Kevin Doyle out of the weekend friendly with Athletic Bilbao is not too serious.

The 26-year-old will have the problem assessed when he joins up with the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their friendly with Argentina and McCarthy is not too concerned.

He told the club's official website: "Doyler got a kick on his calf and is going to be assessed tomorrow in Ireland.

"If it's only the kick and nothing else he'll be involved, but if it's anything else then he'll come back.

"We don't think it is anything else though, but I wasn't going to risk him."

Meanwhile, McCarthy is hoping to have winger Michael Kightly back in full training this week, following a lengthy battle to overcome knee problems.

McCarthy added: "Kightly is doing very well. He's very positive about how he feels, but there's no time on him, it's about getting him back.

"He'll start stepping into training with the lads this week and will do a couple of sessions with the football for 30 minutes.

"I'm thrilled with that. He will be like a new player for us because we hardly used him at all last year."
