Ward knee blow for Wolves
02 Sep 2009 - 12:38:38
Wolves will be without Stephen Ward for up to three months after the defender was forced to undergo knee surgery.
Molineux boss Mick McCarthy was anticipating losing the defender for a couple of weeks, but the surgery revealed a more extensive cartilage problem.
"We thought it was going to be a little tear and he'd be out for a couple of weeks," McCarthy told the club's official website.
"But having seen the specialist he has had to have the cartilage repaired.
"It's really disappointing for Wardy because he has waited so long to get to the Premier League and when he got here he's been great and started the season really well.
"He could be out for anything up to 12 weeks but, knowing Wardy, he'll break the record for getting back."
Ward had started three of Wolves' four Premier League games so far this season.
