Problems mount for McCarthy
18 Aug 2009 - 16:30:00
Wolverhampton Wanderers are suffering from an injury crisis as they approach their second fixture on return to the Premier League.
Wolves travel to the DW Stadium to take on Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening shy of four first team regulars.
Christophe Berra and Kevin Doyle have suffered knocks which will keep them out of action until the weekend.
In an even bigger blow, striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (hamstring) and Kevin Foley (medial knee ligaments) are expected to be out of action for a fortnight.
"We will miss Sylvan and Foley, who has been an absolute rock as a regular in the team for the last two years," admitted McCarthy.
With Chris Iwelumo also injured, striker Sam Vokes is hopeful of earning a starting place in Tuesday's match as Wolves look to earn their first points of the season.
Vokes could start as a lone striker, with Andy Keogh being deployed slightly deeper in support.
