No return for the Mac
29 Nov 2006 - 14:53:21
Defender Jackie McNamara says he is fully fit and looking to force his way back into the Wolves side, scotching claims he could be set for a return to Scotland with Hibernian.
The 33-year-old Scotland international has endured a nightmare spell since joining Wolves from Celtic in summer 2005, as a cruciate knee ligament injury and a hip problem have restricted him to just 11 appearances.
He has been fully fit for three weeks, but young right-back Mark Little continues to keep him out of the side, sparking rumours that he could return north of the border with Hibs to try and revive his career and international aspirations.
However he told BBC Sport: "There are stories suggesting I am still not fit.
"Nothing could be further from the truth and what I now need is to play first-team football.
"It has been very frustrating for me at Wolves with the injuries I have had and, what makes it more difficult now, is the club no longer have a reserve side, so I can't even get any match action that way.
"I just want to play for Wolves and hopefully help the club gain promotion."
