McCarthy targets new striker
13 Jan 2010 - 09:58:54
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that he is hoping to bring a new striker into the club in the January transfer window.
Andy Keogh (ankle) and Stefan Maierhofer (hernia) are currently out of action, leaving McCarthy with little back-up for Kevin Doyle, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Chris Iwelumo - who have all suffered with injuries this season.
McCarthy told the Express & Star: "We've got bids in for players, but we can't do any business without someone else's permission.
"You put bids in and you're reliant on people accepting them or knocking them back.
"If that's the case, we move on to someone else. But we're still hoping of signing someone."
Meanwhile, Wolves continue to be linked with a bid to sign Hull City's Republic of Ireland winger Stephen Hunt.
Hunt only joined the Tigers at the start of the current campaign, but the KC Stadium outfit are known to need to trim their wage-bill to balance their books.
