McCarthy shuns sales talk
15 Dec 2008 - 11:43:04
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is determined to ward off any interest in his star players from Premier League clubs during the January transfer window.
Michael Kightly, Wayne Hennessey and Kevin Foley have all been linked with moves away from Molineux, but McCarthy is adamant that no-one is leaving the Championship leaders next month.
He said: "I have said that I will tell any club to go away politely, as will the chief executive and the chairman. None of them are going anywhere.
"I live in the big wide world. If a top Premier League club came in and offered to pay them vast sums of money it might turn their heads. But I'm telling the clubs and the players that I'm not bothered.
"If players want to leave they will have to wait until June and, by that time, hopefully, we may have achieved what we set out to do.
"If you hand-picked quite a number of our players and put them in a reasonable Premier League side they would not embarrass themselves at all.
"But we are not looking to dismantle the squad we've put together. It would be counter-productive. We are top of the league and trying to win promotion.
"If anything, we will be adding to the squad if we can in January."
