McCarthy rues Iwelumo injury
13 Jul 2009 - 09:43:59
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Chris Iwelumo will be sidelined for several weeks after breaking a metatarsal in the friendly against Perth Glory.
The Scotland international seems certain to miss next month's start to the Premier League campaign after suffering the injury in his first competitive game since picking up a medial knee ligament damage in April.
"It was purely an accident but Chris has broken his metatarsal," said McCarthy.
"I don't know how long he's going to be out for but I just know he's broken it and some players heal quicker than others.
"Chris has worked his socks off and it's just so unfortunate that, after the career he's had in the lower leagues, we're just going into the Premier League and he breaks his toe.
"It's a big disappointment for him and it's a big disappointment for me as well because we've lost him for a number of weeks."
A Sylvan Ebanks-Blake goal helped the Premier League new-boys beat their Australian hosts 1-0.
