McCarthy retains Wolves focus
22 Dec 2008 - 11:25:22
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was pleased to see his side clinch a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Doncaster Rovers to move seven points clear at the top of the Championship table.
A late Neill Collins strike proved decisive at the Keepmoat Stadium, as Wolves won their 18th game from 24 league matches this season.
McCarthy told the club's official website: "I don't think teams are going to let us play to our maximum.
"I think Doncaster found a bit extra because they were playing a team on top of the league and we had to find something else to try and win the game.
"It's not always going to be pretty and silky and full of good football. Games can be like that and it takes a while to get going.
"You have to fight the fight first and scrap it out to get a foothold in the game and then try and go on and win it. You've just got to win games however you can.
"Of course it's a great position to be in - I'd rather be seven points clear at the top than seven points behind at the bottom. But there are still 22 games to go and 66 points to play for."
