McCarthy hopes for defeat boost
28 Jul 2010 - 13:52:36
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is hoping a surprise pre-season defeat can act as an extra motivation for his players.
Wolves went down 2-1 to Championship side Reading on Tuesday night as they slipped to a first defeat of their pre-season programme.
David Jones' late goal was all the Premier League side had to show for their evening's work.
"I never like to lose but maybe it's not a bad thing," McCarthy's told the club's official website. "If you go through the pre-season winning all your games everyone thinks you're wonderful but we know we're not now.
"I don't need a reminder of that but maybe it's a nice reminder to everyone else. We've had a nice pre-season ticking along and winning all our games but Reading away is not a nice easy fixture to have.
"It's a difficult test and they are well organised with some good players, an accomplished team who played well and deserved to win.
"They were playing against a Premier League team and it certainly motivated them and the fans love to beat a Premier League team."
