McCarthy hints at late deals
25 Aug 2009 - 16:37:53
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has revealed he is still hoping to add to his squad before the transfer window slams shut next week.
McCarthy has brought seven new players into Molineux following the club's promotion to the Premier League.
The Wolves squad has been bolstered by the arrivals of Kevin Doyle, Marcus Hahnemann, Greg Halford, Nenad Milijas, Andrew Surman, Ronald Zubar and Michael Mancienne on loan from Chelsea.
But despite a summer of change at the former Championship club, McCarthy has not finished with his cheque book just yet.
"I'm pleased with the squad but we're still looking because once the window shuts that's it - there are no emergency loans to make use of," he told the club's official website.
"And you can become low on numbers fairly quickly."
Meanwhile, McCarthy has revealed that Kevin Doyle will make his first start for the club against Swindon Town in the Carling Cup.
The Republic of Ireland striker has made just one competitive appearance - as a substitute - since joining the club from Reading following summer hernia surgery.
"I'm delighted with Kevin's rehabilitation," added McCarthy. "It would have been a blow to lose him at any time but to lose him at the start of the season when he was our major summer signing was hard.
"But in the two bits we've seen of him he's shown how he can play and we can all see what a good footballer he is.
"He hasn't got his land legs yet with his fitness and sharpness but that will improve with every bit of time on the pitch he gets."
