McCarthy hails resilient players
11 Feb 2010 - 08:55:45
Mick McCarthy praised the resilience of his Wolves players after they bounced back from a derby disappointment to claw their way out of the Premier League relegation zone.
David Jones' 27th-minute strike was enough to edge out Tottenham 1-0 at Molineux on Wednesday night as Wolves secured their first ever Premier League double, following their previous 1-0 win at White Hart Lane back in December.
They had lost 2-1 to Birmingham last weekend and McCarthy was delighted by the response to that derby disappointment.
"Today we were terrific," he enthused. "It wasn't easy, we've had to play well and it was damned hard work and we deserved it.
"It was good that we were 1-0 ahead and didn't allow Sunday to affect that.
"I have never once doubted the attitude of my players - I never have.
"I keep getting asked about their character, about bouncing back and being able to get off the canvas and all those other cliches, but it has never been in doubt about them."
