McCarthy hails Doyle display
27 Jan 2010 - 08:03:02
Striker Kevin Doyle took the plaudits from boss Mick McCarthy after a superb display in Wolverhampton Wanderers' goalless draw with Liverpool at Molineux.
The Republic of Ireland frontman did everything but get his name on the scoresheet and McCarthy was full of praise for the former Reading man.
He told the club's official website: "It was a terrific performance by all my players.
"Maybe some stand out more than others and I'm not sure there can have been many better centre-forward performances at Molineux than Doyle's.
"I know Wolves fans will say there have been, but when you consider he was playing up front on his own against one of the top sides like Liverpool, I'd like to see it.
"You can bring me all the tapes of everyone who's played here and if there's anyone who's played better than that I'd like to see it.
"He is an inspiration, he worked tirelessly, got it to stick up there for us and caused them problems. He didn't get a goal, but that would have made the all-round complete performance.
"He's physically capable of playing that role and did very well - it was an absolute classic performance and he ran their back two ragged."
