Iwelumo loses red card appeal
23 Sep 2008 - 17:12:01
Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo has had his appeal against the red card he picked up in Saturday's victory at Preston North End rejected.
The former Stoke City and Colchester United forward, who scored a hat-trick at Deepdale before being dismissed, will miss the forthcoming games against Bristol City, Reading and Swansea.
A statement from the FA read: "At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal by Wolverhampton Wanderers' Chris Iwelumo was rejected.
"Iwelumo was sent off for violent conduct at Preston North End on Saturday 20 September. The automatic three-match ban will therefore come in with immediate effect."
Iwelumo was sent off following a clash with Preston defender Sean St Ledger. Both players went to see referee Martin Atkinson after the game to insist that any contact between them was accidental.
