Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle has backed midfielder Rohan Ricketts to play a major role in trying to help his side secure a play-off position this season.

The 23-year-old has not had the best of times as he has struggled to recapture his form since suffering an ankle injury at the start of October.

However, he returned to action with an impressive performance in Saturday's 2-0 win against Cardiff City in the absence of injured duo Mark Kennedy and Darren Anderton.

Hoddle feels Ricketts can play a big role in helping them reclaim a sixth-placed finish at least.

He told the Express & Star: "Rohan has found it hard to recover his form after having two months out with a bruised bone which seemed to take forever to get right.

"He found it hard to regain his confidence and form, but he did very well on Saturday. His movement was good and he played how we wanted him to play.

"He's also come on and contributed as a substitute recently, so his confidence is getting there. He is a confidence player and you sometimes try forever to give him that confidence.

"I think he will gain a lot of confidence from the type of performance he produced on Saturday and the fact he's affected the game in a very positive way when he's come off the bench."
