Halford earns second chance

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy admits Greg Halford has staved off the threat of being sold after shining in pre-season training.McCarthy revealed last month that he had told Halford his days at Molineux could be numbered if he failed to make an impression in the build-up to the new campaign. But the £2million signing from Sunderland has succeeded in winning over the former Republic of Ireland boss.McCarthy said: "Let's give Greg a bit of credit. He's trained well in pre-season. Why would I even question that someone of his ability shouldn't be at the club?"He's got lots to offer. Now he's done it for us and, fair play to him, he's had a good pre-season. Since he came back at the start of the summer, he has shown a desire to stay and I can't ask for anymore than that."Meanwhile, McCarthy revealed he has received no approaches from clubs interested in taking young striker Sam Vokes out on loan.
