Wolves winger Michael Kightly cannot believe his season is over after it was confirmed he suffered a broken metatarsal in Tuesday's friendly game against Shrewsbury Town.
The former Grays Athletic star sustained the problem when he landed awkwardly and has been told he needs surgery on his left foot.
"I jumped over the keeper and just fell awkwardly when I planted my foot," Kightly said. "It's the sort of challenge you go in for day-in day-out in training or in a game but yesterday obviously just wasn't my day.
"The toe's now got to be pinned and I'll have to have an operation which hopefully will be as soon as possible. I'm absolutely gutted.
"To miss the last six games when we're in the position that we are is the worst thing that could happen.
"If everything goes as well as we hope and we end up getting promoted then I'll have missed out on all the excitement and the celebrating. I don't think I'll feel part of it."
