Clarke targets starting berth

Wolves striker Leon Clarke is hoping to earn a regular place in Mick McCarthy's starting line-up after netting both goals in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

The 21-year-old made the most of his chance after being handed just his fourth Championship start of the season, but knows he still has to improve if he wants to play more regularly.

"There are quality strikers here and I need to play consistent football to compete," Clarke told the club's official website.

"I need to reach the standard that I set for myself when I broke into the first team two years ago.

"I need to get back to that form, and I don't think I'm too far away now. I'm feeling confident but I need to make sure that I'm consistent.

"I'm enjoying my football and it's great that there are so many good young players here at the moment.

"We go to Southampton on Wednesday and we know it will be difficult to go and get a result but, if I play, then I intend to do well for both me, and the team."
