Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has allowed Jay Bothroyd to join Stoke City on a month's loan.

The 25-year-old striker, who hasn't started a Championship game since January, leaves Molineux with McCarthy's blessing.

"Jay hasn't been involved recently and Tony Pulis is looking for someone to replace Mamady Sidibe, who has a hamstring injury," the Wolves boss told his club's official website.

"I told Jay if he wanted to play at the moment he'd have to go out on loan. One or two first division sides have been in for him, but he didn't want to drop down a division.

"There were a couple of Championship sides as well but Stoke came in for him on Thursday.

"They aren't in competition with us, given the points difference, but maybe Jay can do us a favour and do a bit of damage to our competitors."
