Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has hailed the reaction of striker Jay Bothroyd to criticism of him following the 2-1 defeat at Watford on the opening day of the season.
Bothroyd came off the bench to score a late clincher in the 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, impressing McCarthy in the process.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "Jay has responded well to some vicious and justifiable criticism from me last week.
"To be fair he has knuckled down, he wants to play for the club and he wants to play for me.
"He's come out with all that and shown it in the best possible way out on the pitch.
"We all know that if we've got a man of substance then we've got a good player and that's what I want."
