Berra expects Fletcher back

Former Scotland striker Steven Fletcher will one day return to the international fold, according to Wolves team-mate Christophe Berra. The 24-year-old quit the international scene in frustration last term after being continuously overlooked by national team boss Craig Levein. And the former Hibernian frontman has remained in the international wilderness ever since although Levein has hinted he still has a future with Scotland if he makes steps to reconcile. Berra plays with Fletcher at club level for Wolves and it was the striker whose goals proved instrumental in keeping Mick McCarthy's team in the Premier League. It is that type of form that has convinced Berra his club colleague can still play a key role for Scotland. "At the end of last season Steven was on form when it mattered," Berra told the Daily Record. "He couldn't stop scoring and the goals came at the right moment. "Everyone knows his quality. I'm a team-mate of his but I just have to respect his decision. If he wants to stand by it that's up to him. He is still young and will probably change his mind eventually, but that's down to Steven. "I think any young player wants to play for the national team and I don't think Steven is any different. "He just has to concentrate on his club football and I'm sure he will be back in the Scotland team some day."
