After finishing Kwangoon university in 2000 Seol began his football career playing for Antwerp in Belgium. He played just one season at Antwerp before moving to Anderlecht where he played Champions League football in his three year stay. In the 2002 FIFA World Cup he was a key member to the Korea Republic team. In August 2004 he signed for Wolverhampton for a 1.2 million pound fee. He played 76 games in his time at the club, scoring 10 goals.
