Ivar Ingimarsson was born in Stöðvarfjörður, a small village in the east of Iceland. He began his career with Valur Reykjavík and made 45 league appearances with the team and scored 5 goals. In August 1998 he made a further 35 appearances and scored 5 goals for fellow Icelandic team ÍBV Vestmann. He was loaned to Torquay United in October 1999 and scored on his debut in a 2-1 victory. In November 1999 he signed a 200,000 pound deal to move over to Brentford. He was then released in June 2002 as they could no longer afford to pay his wages. Ivar signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in July and in February 2003 had a loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.
