Wolves play down double transfer talk
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has ruled out summer moves for Stephen Hunt and Robbie Keane, despite admitting his admiration for both players.[LNB] McCarthy had a £5million bid for Hunt turned down by Hull in January as the Tigers hoped their star winger would help secure Premier League survival.[LNB]The 28-year-old has not featured since February due to a foot injury, though, and Hull were ultimately relegated.[LNB]The Yorkshire outfit signed Hunt for £3.5m from Reading last summer and given their financial plight, an offer in the region of £3m is thought to be enough to secure his signing.[LNB]But McCarthy insists he has not thought about making a fresh approach for the Republic of Ireland international.[LNB]"We tried to sign Stephen Hunt in the transfer window as yet that's not been revisited," he told Sky Sports News.[LNB]"Clearly I like him because I tried to sign him, but he's injured at the moment anyway."[LNB]McCarthy has also been linked with bringing Keane back to Molineux after a 10-year absence.[LNB]The 29-year-old striker began his career at Wolves before moving to Coventry in 1999 and was thought to be available this summer after Tottenham sent him on loan to Celtic at the end of last season.[LNB]However, McCarthy believes Keane has no intention to leave White Hart Lane - and even if he did, he reckons Wolves would not be able to compete for his signature.[LNB]"We've just been talking about the fantasy league teams and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want Robbie in their team," he added.[LNB]"I wouldn't be any different but it ain't going to happen.[LNB]"He went up to Celtic just to get games and my impression is, from reading what he's said, he wants to play at Tottenham.[LNB]"If that's not going to be then he'll go somewhere else."[LNB]McCarthy has already signed Scottish striker Steven Fletcher from relegated Burnley for a club-record equalling £6.5million earlier this month.
