Wolves boss impressed by Berra

The Scotland centre-back provided an assist for Kevin Doyle's opening goal - his first since a £6.5million summer transfer from Reading - and was dominant in the air at both ends of the pitch. He was particularly effective in repelling the Fulham pressure late on after Danny Murphy's penalty midway through the second half had set up a tense finish after Edwards scored Wolves' second just after the interval. "It was a good team performance. There have to be a lot of good performances for us to have won that game but I thought Christophe was a difference class," said McCarthy. "I believe he got man of the match, he'd have got my vote. In the last 10 minutes when they were throwing balls into the box he headed everything." McCarthy accepts his side are not the most talented in the Barclays Premier League but believes what they lack in quality they make up for in effort. "We won't win anything if we don't work hard," he added. "I thought it was a really good performance. We were energetic, we closed them down and pressed the ball really well. "Having seen them play last week (a 2-1 win over Everton) I thought we handled it well and we only really suffered when we gave the penalty away. "I think we were just starting to get a bit leg-weary and then it became nervy." Fulham boss Roy Hodgson was impressed by the way Wolves stopped his side playing. "All credit to Wolves, their pressurising and controlled aggression made life difficult," he said. "We didn't deal with that very well at all, it's as simple as that. I don't think there was anything about our play as such, it was more we didn't do well against them. "But I thought it was a performance, for 60 minutes, most unlike us. I've not seen us give the ball away or miss as many passes as much as we did in that game. "We left it late to start playing the football we should be playing, although we did show some character at 2-0 and had the game gone on a bit longer we could have got an equaliser." Hodgson said he could not even blame midweek Europa Cup action for the display as 10 of the starting line-up did not even travel to Sofia. "This team did not play in Europe - the only player who did was John Pantsil - so they have no excuses at all. They have been preparing all week for Wolves," he added. "We made two rather blatant errors and we were punished for both of them."
