Wolves wait on Doherty

Matt Doherty is a doubt for injury-hit Wolves' crucial home clash against struggling Huddersfield.

The right-back is facing a race against time to be fit for the six-pointer having rolled his ankle in last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Bolton, with fellow Irishman Kevin Foley on standby to step in should he be required.

Doherty's injury is just the tip of the iceberg for Wolves, who lost midfielder David Davis to a likely season-ending ankle injury of his own at the Reebok Stadium, the sixth player to see his campaign ended in a matter of weeks.

Scans have confirmed Davis has suffered ligament damage, joining goalkeeper Carl Ikeme (broken hand), leading scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (broken leg), playmaker Bakary Sako (hamstring) and midfielders Dave Edwards (metatarsal) and Razak Boukari (calf) on the sidelines.

Huddersfield, below Wolves on goal difference, are the only side separating the Black Country outfit from the npower Championship drop zone, and they have midfielder Adam Clayton back in contention following suspension.

Clayton, who has missed the last two matches after reaching 10 yellow cards this season, could go straight back into the starting line-up.

Right-back Jack Hunt is also expected to return to action after missing last weekend's draw with Peterborough due to a hamstring injury, and manager Mark Robins must decide whether to recall him to his starting line-up or retain Calum Woods.

Centre-half Anthony Gerrard remains doubtful after sitting it out last week with a bruised calf and winger Danny Ward (groin) is still struggling.

Midfielder Keith Southern, sidelined since the turn of the year with an Achilles injury, is back in full training, but the Wolves clash is expected to come too soon.

Striker Jermaine Beckford is hoping for a recall as the Terriers, one point clear of the relegation zone, chase their first win in four matches.
