Stearman's U21 hopes boosted
Michael Mancienne is suspended for Thursday's Group B clash against Spain U21s in Gothenburg after being sent off in the tournament opener on Monday.
England U21s defeated their Finnish counterparts 2-1 in Halmstad, with Stearman an unused substitute for Stuart Pearce's side.
There are also fitness doubts over fellow centre-backs Nedum Onuoha, who missed the game with a thigh complaint, and Micah Richards, who limped off injured late in the second half having scored what proved to be the winning goal.
Stearman faces competition from Portsmouth's Martin Cranie, who impressed in central defence after switching from right-back, and West Ham's James Tomkins who replaced Richards in the 89th minute.
