Scholes tackles thorny subject

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has rejected the theory that Wolves are too aggressive as the sides prepare to meet at Old Trafford.[LNB] Fulham skipper Danny Murphy stirred up Wolves boss Mick McCarthy plus Stoke's Tony Pulis and Blackburn's Sam Allardyce last month when he accused them of sending their teams out too pumped up in their efforts to stay in the Premier League.[LNB]Plenty of members from the management fraternity have lodged defences, including United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and now veteran midfielder Scholes has offered his support.[LNB]"There are teams who are aggressive but in the Premier League you have to be," said the 35-year-old.[LNB]"The likes of Blackburn and Wolves may not play the prettiest of football but their managers want to find the best way of winning games and do it their own way.[LNB]"It is up to us to be able to play against that and find a way of winning against it."[LNB]Indeed, United have been accused themselves by Arsene Wenger down the years when the Frenchman has claimed Ferguson has sent his team out in an over-aggressive manner, once describing Darren Fletcher's style as "anti-football".[LNB]"When we have played Arsenal down the years we have tried to be aggressive and get about them, otherwise they will pass the ball around you," admitted Scholes.[LNB]"I don't think it is any different to what those teams do."[LNB]Scholes' own approach to tackling is the stuff of legend.[LNB]There are some who think the former England star cannot do it and should not even try. Others feel there is a more sinister aspect to the midfielder, "a darker side" as Wenger put it.[LNB]Scholes does not give any indication of being overly bothered by such criticism.[LNB]After spending so long at the coal face, he knows what is required to win games at the highest level.[LNB]"I don't mind a tackle," he said.[LNB]"When you are at a club like this you need players prepared to put their foot in.[LNB]"You play teams in this league who are quick enough to kick you. You have to be ready to give a bit back as well."
