Wolves managed to avoid the drop on their return to the top-flight last season, finishing in a respectable position and with an eight point gap from 18th placed Burnley.

Goals were a major issue for Mick McCarthy's side, with their haul of 32 the lowest in the entire division. But a reasonably solid defence, coupled with excellent organisation and work-rate resulted in Premier League safety with a couple of games to spare.

In Steven Fletcher (£6.5m, Burnley), Stephen Hunt (£3m, Hull City), Steven Mouyokolo (£2.5m, Hull City), Jelle van Damme (£2.5m, Anderlecht), Adlène Guedioura (Undisclosed, Charleroi), Geoffrey Mujangi Bia (loan, Charleroi)

Out Jason Shackell (Barnsley, undisclosed), Mark Little (released), Daniel Jones (released), George Friend (released), Chris Iwelumo (Burnley, undisclosed), Alan Irvine (Sheffield Wednesday, free), Andrew Surman (Norwich, £500k)

Player to watch Adlene Guedioura

After originally arriving on loan in January, the Algerian signed a permanent deal earlier this month. In his 14 appearances at the end of last season, the 24-year-old showed glimpses of his ability, with his power and direct approach proving a major weapon in Wolves' battle against relegation.

Football.co.uk verdict

Although they did well last season, Wolves were undoubtedley helped by the abysmal form of Portsmouth, Burnley and Hull.

The addition of Steven Fletcher will help take the pressure off Kevin Doyle up-front, but they still lack a top class striker to improve their goal-scoring exploits.

McCarthy's new signings will add strength-in-depth to the squad, helping to ensure another successful fight against demotion to the Championship.

Prediction 16th
