Mick won't discuss Wolves windfall

Birmingham-born Lescott finally appears to be on his way to Manchester City after Everton accepted an undisclosed fee for his services on Sunday. A fee in the region of £24million is believed to have settled the ongoing transfer saga for the 27-year-old centre-back. Lescott initially moved from Molineux to Merseyside for £5million back in the summer of 2006. And with Wolves understood to have pre-arranged a sell-on clause of somewhere between 10-15% on any profit the Toffees make, his switch to Manchester looks set to provide a healthy return for Wanderers. But McCarthy was unsure what will happen when asked if any could come his way. "I don't know, I wouldn't discuss it," he said. "I'd leave that to (chief executive) Jez (Moxey) and (chairman) Steve (Morgan), they deal with the money side of things. "I've never got involved with that. "I only know when I've needed support from Steve and the club it's been there." Speaking about whether he is currently looking to re-enter the market before the September 1 deadline, he added: "The squad's all right but we're still looking because once the window shuts, that's it. There's no emergency loan. "You can get low on numbers fairly quickly." If Lescott were to complete his move to City it would only enhance a squad that McCarthy has already likened to the world famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team. Wolves came away from Eastlands on the back of a respectable 1-0 defeat at the weekend, Emmanuel Adebayor's fine 19th-minute strike settling matters. And as he prepares for Tuesday's Carling Cup second-round clash against Swindon, McCarthy could not help but look at Mark Hughes' side and wonder how opposing teams are meant to cope with their vast array of talent. "I thought we played well," said the Wolves boss. "How do you set up to play against a team that's gone out and bought the best keeper in the league, arguably over the last few years, in Shay Given? "Richard Dunne has been a real solid player in the Premier League, they bought an England left-back from Chelsea in Wayne Bridge, Arsenal's centre-half (Kolo Toure), Micah Richards who we know is a good player. "They've bought Shaun Wright-Phillips back from Chelsea, Gareth Barry - and if there's a better midfield pairing than him and Stephen Ireland then I don't know where. "One of the best Brazilian players (Robinho), one of the best Arsenal strikers (Adebayor), one of the best Manchester United strikers (Carlos Tevez), the best West Ham striker in Craig Bellamy. "How are we expected to play against that in all honesty? It's like playing against the Harlem Globetrotters when I used to watch them as a kid. "All we can do is go out and at times stifle them, try and play our football, have a go at them and give 100% - and that's just what we did."
