McCarthy Pleased With Clayhead Win

Wolves gaffer was clearly chuffed to bits after Wolves beat Stoke City 2-1 on the first day of the Premiership season at Molineux "I was told it's been 11 years since Wolves won on the opening day of the season,  Well I can accept the four since I've been here but I wasn't going to take the blame for the seven before that. It was nice to break the hoodoo.  I suppose it was about time! "It could have been more comfortable with the chances we had but we played well today.  Stoke losing Kenwyne Jones maybe threw them out of kilter a little bit and we had a good spell.  They blocked one or two other shots which were goalbound.  It didn't turn out to be a convincing win but it was a convincing performance I thought. "And overall it was a really pleasing first day of the season." Staff Gaffer Tony Pulis said on the Stoke site "For a 20 minute period after Kenwyne went off, we allowed Wolves to play where they could cause us problems and we also allowed them at the tempo which they wanted to.Conceding two goals before half time left us with a mountain to climb, although we got back into the game and could have snatched a point in the end."
