McCarthy: I won't change tactics
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy says he won't consider changing his tactics for next season after finishing off with a 2-1 home win over Sunderland.[LNB] McCarthy will not compromise his side's Premier League future by giving in to the critics who have scorned his so-called negative tactics at Molineux this season.[LNB]McCarthy watched his side round off their first season back in the top-flight with victory over the Black Cats on Sunday which secured them a final finishing position of 15th - eight points clear of the drop zone.[LNB]With just 32 goals over the season including a mere 13 at home Wolves finished as the league's lowest scorers but McCarthy insists he will employ the same tactics again if it means a repeat of their survival success.[LNB]McCarthy said: "I said early on in the season if we stayed up by virtue of there being three teams worse than us, am I bothered? If we had stayed up by one goal, that wouldn't have bothered me.[LNB]"We had to stay in this league. Would Burnley or Portsmouth or Hull have swapped our position? The goals don't matter. All that mattered this season was finishing above the bottom three.[LNB]"There came a time in the season when we simply couldn't afford to get beaten. I had to manage and organise my team differently and I think myself and the players should take some credit for adapting to that.[LNB]"I had some shouts from the stand to play 4-4-2 but I wasn't going to go down with this team playing nice attractive 4-4-2 football and getting beat. If it comes to it next season the same thing will happen. It's about getting results."[LNB]Meanwhile the priority for Sunderland boss Steve Bruce over the summer months will be to work out a way to improve his side's dismal away form which yielded only two wins and a total of 10 points on their travels.[LNB]Despite a season in which their slim hopes of Europa League qualification were dashed by a crippling injury list, Bruce is determined to make no excuses for his side's patchy form throughout the campaign.[LNB]Bruce said: "You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know where we have to improve. Our home form has been exceptional but away from home we have produced what is almost relegation form.[LNB]"We're looking at all sorts to try and improve and I'm looking at myself too. It's my job to get results away from home and there is a fine balance. I will be putting a plan together to try and improve that.[LNB]"Our start to the season was good, the middle was average and the end was decent. But we have to do much better away from home. It's as if we always need a home crowd, which is a disappointing thing."
