McCarthy defends team selection

Mick McCarthy has defended the Wolves side chosen for Tuesday's Carling Cup clash with Notts County, saying: "It's not an understrength team."[LNB] McCarthy has made nine changes from the starting XI beaten 3-1 by Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.[LNB]Only defender Richard Stearman and midfielder Kevin Foley keep their places from the side which started at White Hart Lane.[LNB]Last season, Wolves were given a suspended fine of £25,000 for making 10 changes for a Premier League game with Manchester United at Old Trafford.[LNB]But McCarthy has still selected a side full of experience containing five internationals to face County.[LNB]It is in contrast to the cluster of youth-team players he named for the previous round against Southend.[LNB]McCarthy, who announced his team at Monday afternoon's pre-match press conference, insisted: "It's not an understrength team I've picked for tomorrow night.[LNB]"It's a team containing Premier League players who have cost a few quid. There are no youth-team players this time, but that's no detriment to them.[LNB]"We need to get back to winning ways and I'd love to have a cup run."[LNB]Wolves defender Steven Mouyokolo will make his debut against Notts County after an injury-hit start to his Wolves career.[LNB]He made a £2.5million switch from Hull in the summer but has suffered ankle and then hamstring injuries.[LNB]Mouyokolo will be partnered in the centre of defence by Christophe Berra, who is available after serving a one-match ban for his dismissal against Fulham at Craven Cottage.[LNB]Much-travelled striker Marcus Bent will have a chance to impress in place of the rested Kevin Doyle in his first start since joining from Birmingham on loan.[LNB]But David Edwards has joined Jelle van Damme (calf), Ronald Zubar (ankle) and Matt Jarvis (groin) on the casualty list after injuring an ankle in training on Monday.
