Mancini: City can win Prem this year

29 December 2009 07:35
Two goals from Carlos Tevez and a superb free-kick from Javier Garrido helped City close the gap on Chelsea to 10 points as they built on the 4-3 win over Sunderland in the last match of the Mark Hughes era and Saturday's 2-0 home success over Stoke.[LNB]Mancini insists he will not look at the league table for a couple of months but is refusing to rule out a title tilt.[LNB]The Italian said: "Now is not the time to look at our league position. We will just play one game at a time and then we will look at the table in two months.[LNB]"Can we win the league? All is realistic. We have another 18 games to go so all is possible because we have a good team.[LNB]"If we stay concentrated always it is possible with the players we have.[LNB]"Also, if we don't play it (the ball) wrong and adopt a short passing game, I think we can arrive in the top four of the Premier League."[LNB]Mancini was full of praise for striker Craig Bellamy, who caused Wolves constant problems alongside Tevez.[LNB]Bellamy had been a big admirer of Hughes but Mancini is hoping the Wales international will stay at Eastlands.[LNB]He added: "Craig Bellamy is a strong character, a good player. It would be better if he stayed with us.[LNB]"I have had difficult players but I have played for 20 years and I know very well about good players so there are no problems."[LNB]Wolves boss Mick McCarthy saw his side slump to a second defeat in 72 hours after the loss at Liverpool, but was happy with his side's overall performance.[LNB]McCarthy also refused to comment on his apparent anger at Bellamy not being given offside ahead of City's second goal from Javier Garrido.[LNB]He said: "I'm not going to comment on it. It might cost me a few quid if I do. I will just put what I think in my report.[LNB]"But in terms of our performance, I thought the final scoreline was very harsh. I thought we played well tonight.[LNB]"I know that sounds ridiculous when you've lost 3-0 but we played as well with the ball as we have done for a long time.[LNB]"In the first half we were excellent and in the second half, up until the second goal, we were giving them problems.[LNB]"But, if you had said after the Birmingham game a month ago that we would have the points we have got now (19), then we would all be happy.[LNB]"We weren't really expected to get points from sides in the top six and we have to pick up points against the teams we are expected to pick up points from."[LNB][LNB] Barclays Prem 2009/10 Win Outright: Man City 25/1
