Jones happy to see Doyle return

Doyle has been recovering from hernia surgery and came off the bench on the hour mark in the 2-0 Molineux defeat. The former Reading marksman produced a bright 20-minute performance, with the exception of missing a penalty, before being withdrawn as planned 10 minutes from time. "Doyler got about 20 minutes which we were hoping for," McCarthy told the club's website. "Sylvan (Ebanks-Blake) had got a sore foot and it was never necessarily the case that Kevin would have to play the last 20 minutes. "Sometimes a game can be dead in the last few minutes and so it was better for Kevin to come on what he did and I thought he made a really good impact. "I kind of guessed the fans might have been a bit alarmed and perhaps we should have got some sort of message out or got Kevin to stick his thumbs up to show he was ok! "I understood when it all went a bit quiet but he got his 20 minutes and is well. "I've just been ringing Liam Brady (Republic of Ireland assistant coach) to see whether they actually want him to play 45 minutes because it would benefit them and might benefit us as well. "A good 45 minutes would do him good and while it still might be a bit optimistic as to whether he could start for us next week he could certainly be involved. "I was really pleased with him and he's been desperate to be involved. "Fair play he wanted to take the penalty just after coming on but it's not cost us any points - maybe David Jones should have had a go after the one he despatched against Southampton!"
